BBC Speaking Awards 2010
This is a report which considers the BBC Speaking Awards 2010.
The participants come from all sorts of secondary schools or
universities. They are aged between 16 and 20 years. Every school can sign in
students. The students compete in the regional rounds. The best ones go to the
semi finals. The eight best students join the National Final in Amsterdam. The
international final takes place in London. The judges are highly qualified
volunteers.
This leads me to my opinion of this year’s finalists in Holland. For me
Roza Rashaan was the best one. In my opinion her pronunciation was really
excellent, it sounds like she is a native speaker. Speaking for myself her
presentation had a very good structure and was really professional. I believe
that Michelle Ngo should gain the second place, she had good pronunciation too.
I think the only disadvantage I could think of is that she stutters sometimes.
And the third place is for Marjolein Wiersma, this is because her expression is
really good and she is speaking about a current topic.
I completely agree with the jury, because Roza Rashaan is the winner of
the competition and in my opinion she was the best too. She won because she
gave a good opening and had an excellent intonation. The winner of the public
speaking awards is Marjolein Wiersma, because she had remarkably clear diction
and her presentation was really clear. What I mean is really true.
I think this is a very good competition and it stimulates students to
improve their English speaking. If I get the opportunity to participate, I
would really like that. I want to talk about social media like hyves, facebook
and twitter.

BBC Speaking Awards
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe BBC Speaking awards is a fairly known English-speaking competition organised by the BBC. Students, between the age of 16 and 20, compete against each other in regional speaking rounds all across the country. The dedicated few who win these strong selections will compete against each other in the semi-final and finally the BBC Speaking Awards final 2010.
This year’s final, on April the 26th, was a great opportunity for the students to show off with their English speaking skills. There were three outstanding speakers in my opinion: Roza Rashaan, Marjolein Wiersma and Michelle Ngo. What I liked about these three girls was their chosen subject and of course their pronunciation and charisma, but also the idea that they really seemed to enjoy it. The fact that they where not too confident also influenced my view and first impression. Personally, I think that their speeches had a good structure and were not boring at all.
The final judgement of the jury was not really unpredictable: Roza Rashaan is the winner of the BBC Speaking Awards 2010! I must say I can’t argue with this decision, as she really deserved it in my opinion: her presentation was closely to perfect!
I think this Speaking Awards Contest is a great opportunity for young student to get the attention they deserve, as they have outstanding talents. These kind of competitive speaking contests are very educational for everyone and it just pushes the students to the limit! I can’t wait to see the BBC Speaking Awards final of 2011!
